Frequently Asked Questions

Booking & Logistics

Where is Heletranz located?

Our private Heletranz Heliport is located at 234 Rosedale Road, Albany, on Auckland’s North Shore, where guests are welcome to make use of secure on-site parking. Departures can also be arranged from other locations, including Auckland Airport or private properties, subject to safety assessments. Be sure to put Heletranz Heliport in your maps to pick-up the right location.

How far in advance should I book?

For popular experiences like the “Waiheke Island Lunch”, “Heli-Fishing” or “Auckland City & Volcanoes Scenic Flight” we recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance, especially for weekend departures. For last-minute enquiries, please call our team directly to check availability.

How long is a Heletranz helicopter flight?

This depends entirely on your chosen itinerary. A scenic flight over Auckland City typically takes 15–20 minutes, while a full-day lunch or golf excursion can span 4–6 hours. Your specific flight time and time on the ground will be confirmed at the time of booking.

What is your cancellation and weather policy?

Safety is our absolute priority. If the pilot determines that weather conditions are unsuitable for flying, we will offer to reschedule your flight or provide a full refund. For guest cancellations, we require at least 48 hours’ notice for a full refund. View our full Terms and Conditions here.

Can I fly with a medical condition?

In many cases, yes – but if you have a medical condition, disability, limited mobility, or any concerns about flying, please let our team know before booking. We may ask you to seek advice or sign-off from your medical professional prior to your flight. If you have limited mobility, we can often accommodate you, but it is important to let us know in advance so we can arrange the most suitable aircraft and boarding set-up. If you are unsure how flying may affect your health, you should consult your doctor before travel. Please note that helicopter flights are not pressurised, and flight altitudes can vary depending on the route and terrain.

Where can a helicopter land?

Helicopters can land at a wide range of locations, including private properties, lodges, vineyards, islands, and local airfields, provided the site is suitable and all required permissions are in place. Every landing area must meet safety and Civil Aviation Authority requirements, and some destinations may require additional approvals or resource consent. If you have a particular destination in mind, our team can assess the location and advise on the best option.

The Experience

What should I bring for a helicopter flight?

  • Camera/Phone: You will want to capture the incredible aerial views.
  • Sunglasses: The glare at altitude can be quite strong.
  • Identification: Please bring a valid photo ID for check-in.
  • Small Bag: Due to space and weight restrictions, we ask that guests bring only small carry-on items unless prior arrangements for luggage have been made.
  • Luggage & Golf Bags: Where luggage is pre-arranged, soft bags and smaller golf bags are preferred.

Are there weight restrictions for passengers?

Yes, aircraft have strict weight and balance limits. We ask for the estimated weights of all passengers during the booking process. Generally, an individual weight limit of 130kg applies, but this is a case-by-case calculation based on overall aircraft balance and weight. We can often accommodate different requirements through aircraft selection.

How many people can fit in a helicopter, and is there a minimum number of passengers required?

This depends on the helicopter booked. Our scenic flights typically require a minimum of two passengers to proceed, and our aircraft can carry between 3 and 7 passengers. If you are a solo traveller, please get in touch to see if there’s an existing flight you can join, or to upgrade to a private flight. Private charters have no minimum requirement.

When should I arrive for my helicopter flight?

We recommend arriving 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time to allow for check-in and any pre-flight safety briefing. If your flight is departing from a location other than our Albany heliport, or you have booked a private charter, we will confirm your arrival time when booking. If you are running late, please contact our team on 09 415 3550 as soon as possible.

Can I take photos during a flight?

Yes, you can take as many photos as you like during your Heletranz helicopter flight. Phones and cameras are allowed on board as long as they do not affect safety or distract you from the pilot’s instructions. Your phone does not need to be switched to flight mode.

Can a passenger be refused boarding?

Yes. For the safety of all passengers, our aircraft, and crew, we reserve the right to refuse boarding or decline to carry anyone whose behaviour, condition, or actions may present a safety or security risk. This includes passengers who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, behave in a threatening or disruptive manner, or do not follow crew or ground staff instructions. If you have any questions before your flight, please contact our team.

Special Occasions & Charters

Can I customise a flight for a proposal or anniversary?

Absolutely. We specialise in once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Whether it’s a romantic landing at a secluded vineyard or a surprise flight over the Hauraki Gulf, our team can help coordinate the details, including champagne or flowers on arrival.

Do you offer transfers to private islands or lodges?

Yes, Heletranz provides premium air taxi services throughout the North Island. We frequently fly to Waiheke Island, Northland lodges, and private estates. Please contact us for a bespoke charter quote.

Can children go on a helicopter flight?

Yes. Children of all ages are welcome, and there is no age restriction. Children under the age of two (infants) may travel on an adult’s lap free of charge, while children aged two and over require their own seat at the standard rate. Please note that infants are still counted within the aircraft’s passenger capacity, so a seat must remain available for them, even if they are travelling on a lap.
